Tis the Season . . . To Give

Christmas

Though you should want and strive to give to those who are less fortunate all year round, many choose to wait and offer assistance around the holidays. Specifically, once the month of Christmas hits, it seems that people are more willing to lend a helping hand. Or, in the case of a local business owner in Norwich, more than 40 motorized wheelchairs were given out to those in need.

Continuing his annual tradition, Phil Pavone, owner of AZ Pawn, coordinated the giveaway in which he gave away wheelchairs. Pavone has now been keeping this tradition alive for the past five years. The motorized wheelchairs often come from different sources; a total of more than 100 have ultimately been given away.

Pavone heads the annual giveaway and continues to do so for one reason: to help those in need who have been denied a wheelchair by their health insurers. If someone is denied a chair by insurance and can’t afford to purchase the chair on their own, then they have to do without . . . enter Pavone.

Phil Pavone understands the fact that there are people who need and rely on a chair for mobility purposes, yet don’t have access to one. Not only did he donate over 40 chairs, but he sat down and took time with each recipient to specially show them how to control the chair. Pavone made sure that each individual was well educated on the chair’s joystick, speed, and how to recharge the device.

An Inspiration to Everyone

In a word, Phil Pavone is an inspiration to everyone. He is the perfect example of how important it is to take part in selfless acts. Though you may not be able to offer assistance the way Phil does, it’s still important and just as useful to donate whatever you can — even if it’s just your time. From time to time, everyone needs help in their lives; there’s no better deed than offering a helping hand.
